Larvae effect is based on the extracorporeal digestion, that is by secretion of enzymes outside the body. The larvae change reaction in the wound to the basic, which contributes to the death of the bacteria. Dissolved necrosis serves as food for a larvae and thus is removed much more precisely than surgeon can do.
Fly larvae can remove bacteria from the wound in the several ways:
• by mechanical washout due to increased production of exudate in the wound,
• larvae secretions contain antimicrobial substances (in result killing bacteria), such as ammonia, ammonium bicarbonate, calcium and calcium carbonate,
• they are eating secretion together with bacteria,
• secreted allantoin, with soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, attributed to accelerate granulation and stimulate the healing process .
