The recipients of this method are mainly those with the various types of the chronic wounds, in which the surgical removal of necrosis or antibiotics are not possible. The most common indication for larval therapy is purification of the necrosis in case of patients with diabetic foot, but also the treatment of pressure ulcers, extensive traumatic infected wounds, burns, bone infections, cancer ulceration, serious infections of the skin and subcutaneous tissue caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria, especially by methicillin-resistant staphylococci and pseudomonas aeruginosa.
 
The advantages of this method are: quick wound purification, removing the infection and assisting development of granulation tissue which shortens the healing time.
