Hemorrhoids are caused by venous insufficiency of vascular plexi around the anus. Hemorrhoids can be divided into internal and external types. They usually do not provide strong pain besides discomfort and bigger difficulty in hygiene after defecation. The problem is identified in case of chronic hemorrhoids, where thrombosis and inflammation happen. Tumors usually grow, they are painful and bleed easily. Using a leech directly on the hemorrhoids causes rapid pain relief, even after one treatment.

In the case of non-inflamed hemorrhoids, direct application of leech on an external lump, around the anus or at the end of the tailbone lead to decrease of hemorrhoids size, as well as to their complete disappearance. The effect results form the activity of salivary glands, which:

• change flow in vascular plexi around the anus,
• reduce tension in the anal sphincter,
• increase extracellular flow
• facilitate outflow of blood from the perianal plexi
• have an anticoagulation effect
• act fibrinolytic in the walls of hemorrhoids.
